Hi all,
My dad bought a pink triangle LPT years ago ~1991, never really got used that much but shortly after getting it it had to go for repair.
Anyway, it sat round for a while. Anyway, its not working again so i took it to bits and a load of the resistors, the big ones in series,
are burnt out. Anyone had similar problems, and more importantly, does anyone know how much power these are meant to be disipateing?
Theres also a variable resitor on the board. Can anyone direct me to a schematic or tell me how to find out what was causing the burn outs. Cos as it stands i could replace the components and have the same thing happen all over again.

Thanks.

Dave

I think you're referring to this topic that was about the drive motor: http://www.audiotoolsdirect.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/23/61.html

After thought: It's not got a voltage selector on the back that's been knocked to 110V by accident has it? hmm

I found the site from that article turning up in google. It is a different problem. Its burnt components on the board not a problem with the motor not spining. Allthough it maybe worth soaking the motor. But it originally happened when the motor was new so its unlikely giving it a clean will stop an excessive current drain.

I know that one of the resistors is actually burnt out and has infintie resistance so i know that replacing that will fix it as the other big resistors do all mesure about 3k35 (or very close).
There isnt a voltage selector. The mains cable attaches directly to the boardand neither external fuse or internal fuse has blown.
The fact that the thing hasnt set on fire but has got pretty hot at somepoint suggests that its not a mains thing. it just seems that over a period of time theres just a slightly too high potential across the power resistors which is obviously causing too much to flow and therefore to much energy is being disapted and they cant cope.
I need to know how much power these things need to get rid of. Anyone know how much power a typical turntable motor uses?
I did search the site for any info on PT stuff but to no avail.
I may try emailing origin live to see if they know what to do.

tt motors are tiny things so I don't see them drawing much power.
If you google for analogue audio sites you'll satand a better chance of getting expert help these'll get u started [pink fish is mayb the best?] i've not named them as I'm too lazy :smokin: web page
