I have a CyberDrv CW088D CD-R/RW. I have used Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, and CDBurnerXP all on the lowest writing oprtions. After i put the disc(Memorex) inside and start burning. I hear a weird noise. It isnt a clicking noise. Its more of a scraping noise. It sounds more like the disc might be hitting something inside there. I dont know.I just recently moved and could something have came loose and that is the noise? I only hear the noise when i am burning a cd. The burner didnt really work that well before the noise. It was kind of a 50/50 chance if the cd would come out correct, but now theres a 0 chance. Also, the progams wont even finish the cd.

Whenever i burn a cd, the program i use will say that it is writing the song and it is written successfully. All the while this scraping noise is going on. However, when it gets to the end of the cd it will say error and that the cd experienced a problem. So, whenever i take the cd to a cd player, nothing happens.

It says In Device Manager that everything is working properly and its hooked up correctly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and still nothing. I dont want to open up the computer and mess around inside becasue i dont know enough about that.

Does anyone have any suggestions... THANKS

Oooooh, I don't like the sound of that "scraping noise" (excuse the pun). It sounds like the disc isn't locating correctly on the spindle, hence the other writing problems.

If, as you say, the burner never worked too well before anyway it might just be worth replacing it. They are extremely cheap to buy now and also very easy to fit as long as you have a 5.25" bay. If your existing one is custom built-in to your case you will just have to leave it there disconnected. If your CyberDrv is already in a 5.25" bay all you need to do it undo 4 screws and remove 2 cables, slide it out, slide the new one in and reconnect. That's it. Easy! You don't even need to install any drivers.

If you are going to replace it I would advise upgrading to a DVD writer. You can also use these to burn CD-Rs but also have the ability to backup data, MP3's, etc. to DVD holding 4.7GB of data unlike CD-R which will only store 700MB of data.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I ended up going out and buying a new CD-RW. I am low on cash right now so i couldnt afford the DVD Writer. Hopefully i will soon be able to afford the upgrade. It was really easy to install like you said. It was also really cheap too. I got a Nexxtech for like 35 Dollars. Once i installed it, I was back to burning all the cds i wanted.

Thanks again,

-TALLY
