one problem though

if i try and link direct it will not play in wmp9 but if i save the link then open it, it works. Any thoughts?

Maybe you have installed another program that it overriding WMP9's file options. Open WMP and select Tools / Options / File Types. Make sure there's a tick in the .asf box and then click Apply.
