Hi everybody, I have just joined - nice to be here. I am thinking of buying a Music to CD converter. I like to make home movies and can put my own music on and have lots of 'old' LP's that I think would go. Am really a little confused and wonder if I willbe able to do it. i have an AdventIntel Pentium PC with Windows XP Home edition. My hubby is a spark and although he isn't computer wise he is au fait with electrical thingamys (of course). Sorry this is a bit long. But I'm a bit muddled over -rRand +R Well can anybody suggest the best one - Oh dear you wil think I'm a muddled old thing. Sorry. if you can make head or tail out of this, would be grateful for a reply confused

Hi Suzanne. Welcome aboard the board.

A little confused here. You mention -R and +R which, if I'm not mistaken, relates to DVDs and not CDs. Are you attempting to put audio onto DVD or CD?

Oh thanks for replying so soon. Well, I got confused after reading an article about -R and +R, these were DVD's of course. No it's CD's. So these are not - or + then. I'm so sorry I sound so muddled, and I am a bit. I wish I hadn't read the article. I just want to get my LP's on to CD's

First step - read / print a copy of the Vinyl To Hard Drive tutorial. This will get you started on connecting your Hi-Fi to your PC and getting the recordings on to your computer.

Once we've got you to that stage we'll sort the CD burning side out.

The bottom line at this point is can you now record a vinyl LP, etc as a .wav file to your HDD and play it back ?

Thanks a lot for your help. Think, as I'm so new to this, i should tell you that my sister's gift is a Sony LBT-XB20 Compact Hi-Fi Stereo System. Only vacant hole I can see on it is for 'Phones'. Sorry I'm really new to this and really need help. so perhaps you would suggest what to do. Thanks for the web site, shall look at this now.

Oh dear, just one other thing re-reading the Tutorial. It says:-"make sure that the sound card on your computer has an Input/Line in socket. Would this be the socket I use for my mic? If not I'm stuck again.!!!

There are usually 3 sockets on the sound card:

Pink - Microphone In
Green - Line Out ( to speakers )
Blue - Line In

The only problem with using "Mic In" is that this input is usually mono.

I think I amgoing to have to get hubby to look at this. Anyway what should I be using, if I have them? I do have speakers. You see my husband set this up for me. I just 'use' the computer. I'm sorry about this. Hubby is good at plugs and things, at the moment, I feel as I'm good for nothings!!! Cheers

Could be a few reasons.

1. Did you create an Audio CD? If you made a data CD full of MP3 files your Hi-Fi won't read it.

2. Did you finalise the CD? Hi-Fi's don't like multisession discs. You have to finalise the CD ( i.e. put all your tracks on at once ) and choose the option to write the disc as Disc-At-Once.

3. If you've done all this correctly then it could simply be down to the media. Is the burn side of your disc a light silvery green colour or a dark greeny blue colour? I've had problems in the past with CD players not reading the disc because the burn side is too dark.

Have you played burned CD's on your player before? Have you tried one of your burns on a friend's player or vice versa?
