Ive been using Wave Corrector to remove scratches from vinyl, however if I raise the detection up too much, it degrades the quality of the track.
I may be looking for a program which cannot be written!, but does anyone know of any software which will clean up vinyl thoroughly without having to deal with the clicks one by one?

I really hope someone else is going to post a reply and prove me wrong, but the only and best way I know to remove scratches is one by one. frown And to make a really good job deal with each scratch on its own merit frown

Sorry Gubbed frown

Maybe I'm not quite the purist, but when I transfer old vinyl I lightly mist the record with distilled water with a spray bottle.

Thanks for the responses. The prospect of going through as many albums as I have, cleaning up individual clicks is too much to contemplate!
As for the distilled water, I've never heard of doing this. What difference does it make?
Thanks again for replying.

Hey Gubbed,
You would mist the album while you are playing it on your turntable. Try it with one of your worst/damaged albums. I think you'll be surprised at the results.

I have used wav corrector and other programs to try and remove clicks automatically with not a lot of success. I had such a lot of records to doctor including a lot of 78 recordings. The only answer I found was to use CoolEdit 2000 and remove clicks manually one at a time, It has taken many hours but I know of no other way that would make the job automated.

FYI
Because we lost a few Posts last night with the sever changeover, it seems Gubbed's reply on this topic was 1 of them.

What i can remember of it was that he had tried the distilled water tip that MysticEyes recommended and was amazed by the result smile

Hopefully he will post back himself with an update

You're 1/2 right there Gus. Its what James Bond used to call "branch water"; that with equal measures scotch makes everything sound brighter wink

Woops! looks like my post was evaporated.
I did try the water tip and it worked a treat. It made me wonder if the same result could be achieved with some sort of polish or wax.
I have been given custody of a load of LP's which were destined to spend the rest of thier lives slowly rotting in a garage, and some are in a horrible state, so I may do a bit of experimenting!!
If I stumble across anything, I'll let you know.
