When I record in 96khz/24bit format I'm getting a galloping distortion sound that gradually fades in volume. Sometimes if I continue playing it almost seems to go away but can still be heard slightly in the background. When I play through SONAR's (I use Sonar 2.2) effects everything sounds fine (even when the track is armed), but as soon as I hit the record button the galloping sound comes right back. Increasing the DMA buffer size seems to make the problem worse and increasing the mixing latency in SONAR has no effect at all. Have you heard of this problem before?

I find the 24/96 a total nightmare to use so I sympathise m8.

I get a similar thing on playback cause I still have the source connected, try dissconnecting or muting it.

Are u recording from analogue eg mic, guitar or digital ie cd?

I'm recording staight out of the back of my amp, line out to line in on the card. It is interesting to note that I don't seem to have this problem when I record at a lower recording hrz like 84/24bit, only at 24/96. bypassing the amp has no effect and muting the source doesn't help because the distorted sound gets recorded right on to the track. Also, I can copy files off of loop discs and they play no problem, only when I try to record line in does this problem occur I have a 2.8 Ghz AMD processor so I don't think that is the problem

You may be getting digital distortion due to overloading of the input, or too high a gain setting.

Can't be much help I'm afraid as as I've already said the 24/96 is unfathomable.

I'm just starting work now but I'll post some other sites that may be able to help - meanwhile try Googling your prob.
