Hi ya, i cant get the mic to work on the onboard sound i got, ive done the normal stuff make sure its unticked in sound bit and turned vol up but still nothing, got normal sound but mic not going at all, and its the same on my two sisters pc`s wot am i doing wrong, was fine when we use dto have win 98 and m/e, i know ive been on xp now for ages but never needed to use mic, now me sisters have pc`s they wanted to have msn and yahoo chats but we cant.

So i said dont pannic i know a site that will help lol

Under Microphone-> Advanced did you tick +20 db boost?

ive dont all that mystic, still nothing, so strange this.
ive even built a new pc and i still got no mic lol tried two mic`s and no good.

yes mic is ticked ive even gone through the lot unticking and ticking as i go, but still no mic, my friend said he had same problem he did somthing and it worked lol but he cant remember wot he did lol. wondering if i need a sound card and not the onboard one

Check that both 'Playback and Recording' show your sound card. What brand is your MOBO? Hopefully 'Mute' isn't ticked.

In Device Manager everything looks good? Have you tried installing the manufacturer's latest drivers (not the native XP ones)?

If you're getting the same problem on other PCs then it's looking like the actual mic is the problem.

Also, don't want to state the obvious but you are plugging it into the right jack aren't you?

Have you got a sound card installed as well as the onboard chip?

mic works fine ive used it upstairs today on two pc`s not running xp

mobo is asus A7V880 no other sound is used only the oboard one. when i got to sound properties its showing the sound in the top window and that it. i used the drivers that came with the mobo soundmax digital

It appears the latest sound drivers are 5.12.01.3663 dated 5.25.2004. Is this what you are running?

still no good no mic, i cant get over wot a pain this is. ive just been through all the thing si can think of and no good

Have you tried it with any other software? Play around with Windows Sound Recorder to see if you can record from mic input.

getting on me nerbs now lol its gotta be on board sound,
