I know this subject has arisen in the past but...

Take a continuous mix cd album rip it to mp3 tracks and try to replay it as a whole. You'll get annoying gaps and jumps between each track. That's no problem to sort you say, bung the mp3s into an editor and "glue" them back together as 1 big track. Well that's easy enough for the odd track to track fade but I've got a 1hr+ mix of 22 tracks!!
Also the problem is compounded by the fact that whatever's ripped these tracks has left out minute bits at the beginnings and ends of most of these tracks.

So apart from a massive editing job what's the easy way round this please?

There are lots of proggies for splitting up long files into tracks but are there any for piecing them back together - if not there's a gap in the market. Anyone care to help me fill it?

The odd track that fades in to another

So, if you put them back together you'll have jumps between tracks because there are "bits" missing. Is that right?

You can join them back together as the category /Cut & Splice/Audio refers.

Yeah! How noticeable these are just depends on the tracks. All my editing skills are subtractive so although I can get pretty seem free sound I do lose a bit of the beat; I should work on the additive - but hey life's too short ......

What's needed is a ripper that is acurate and follows the cd track exactly or one that ignores the cd tracks and just rips one long track. Then we need a player that doesn't put in gaps on playback.

Incidentally I noticed whilst browsing the site of my favourite band, XTC, that they make specific mention in their downloads that crossfading tracks have been re-edited to be seperate.

So what I need is a "Joiner" prerably free

Well how did you do Almanac 2005 as the tracks on there crossfade?

As you only have 22 tracks you could have it done and dusted by the time it takes you to hunt round for a suitable app, tried a few out and ended up with nothing. hmm

I dld a copy of Direct MP3 Joiner which did a pretty good job straight out of the box. Afaik A Audition won't batch join, I can get it to batch convert but that's all "batch" seems to be able to do.
I built A2005 track by track over many hours. This time I just needed summat to sort out an albums worth of mp3 tracks quickly. As it is now that I've done it I'm well fed up listening to it rolleyes

Just a thought, I wonder if the mp3 tags have something to do with the playback gaps/glitches. I think ID3-V1 puts the info at the start and ID3-V2 puts the info at the end. Many feel there is no need for the extra info that ID3-V2 provides.

But all mp3 players/jukeboxes playback putting gaps between tracks. So does the iPod. I don't know why !?

Perhaps theres a player out there that doesn't and a ripper that doesn't mess with the beginning and ends of tracks??

Answers on a postcard please.
